Diagnosing Your PC: How To Tell If Your Computer Is Infected

Posted on by beltzer

Most of us have experienced a computer that just doesn’t “work right.” Random restarts, screens that lock up at the most inconvenient of times, odd error messages, and a computer that runs as slow as molasses may all be symptoms of a malware infection. This article from Yahoo! News goes over some of these common symptoms (and some less common ones as well) and gives some advice on what to do if you encounter them.

Another resource for identifying a possible malware outbreak on your PC is Sophos’A to Z guide to Computer Security Threats. This PDF document describes the various types of malware in the world today, how to tell if your computer is affected by them, and what to do avoid and/or remove these threats from your computer.

Finally, if you do find that your PC is infected, visit the Sophos Knowledgebase for information on how to remove a virus using the ITS-supported anti-virus software.
