Patch Tuesday Roundup for February 2014

Posted on by mbordas

During this month’s Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released seven security bulletins, four of which are considered critical. The bulletins address vulnerabilities in Windows, Internet Explorer, Security Software, and the .NET Framework. For more information about this month’s updates, visit the Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary for February 2014.

Adobe also released a critical update for Shockwave Player, in addition to last week’s emergency Flash Player update. For more information about these updates, visit Adobe’s Security Bulletins and Advisories page.

ITS recommends that you keep your computers and other devices up to date with the latest security fixes in order to protect your devices and your data from malicious code and unauthorized access. For instructions on setting your computer to automatically check for updates, visit the ITS Security page.

Note that Microsoft will end support for the Windows XP operating system on April 8, 2014. This means that the company will no longer provide security or other OS updates to protect XP users from malware and other threats. Additionally, new programs and upgraded versions of existing programs may not function properly on XP systems.

ITS encourages users of Windows XP to upgrade to a newer operating system as soon as possible. For more information, see End of Support Date for Windows XP.
